Below is a comprehensive academy event/course listing for the 2010-2011 season.  TDI has developed courses to meet the needs of today's Dance, Flag, and Youth program Students, Coaches, Judges, and Parents.  Below is a listing of courses and events that are currently available.  We will be adding new curriculum and date offerings often so please check back frequently.  To register for a course, please click the link associated with the course and the date that you would like to attend.

LEVEL 100 COURSES



JJ-100 JUNIOR JUDGING
Credit Hours: 2 hour non-credit course (No Pre-Requisite)
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended For:  Student performers, Choreographers, and interested parents.
Cost: $28.00 or $75 for 3 or more team members.
Course Description: This entry-level course is geared toward gaining an insight into the score sheets and how the judges actually adjudicate performances.  We will talk specifically and candidly about how scores are earned and the rubric that guides the system. It is a basic course designed to educate  student performers on the rubric used to evaluate their performances.

ASEP Endorsed Coaching Dance and Flag Principles
Credit Hours: 2 hrs
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  New Coaches
Cost: $28.00
Course Description:  This course is the ASEP DANCE/COACH specific course.  TDI is the only resource for this class in Illinois.  The requirment is met for ASEP certification along with ASEP's on-line Coaching Principals Course and a First-Aide Course.  It also serves as a PRE-REQUISITE for C-210 and is a substitute for 2 years coaching experience. If you are a new or beginner coach…this class is a MUST!

C-100 ~ TDI PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS FOR NEW COACHES
Credit Hours: 2 credit hours
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  New Dance and Flag Coaches
Cost: $28.00
Course Description: This introductory course is designed to orient coaches to regional contest protocol, the score sheets and our judging system, as well as the state qualification system.

J-100 ~ APPLICATIONS FOR DANCE & FLAG JUDGES
Credit Hours: 3 credit hours
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  All New Dance and Flag Judges
Cost: $42.00
Course Description: This course is an introduction and orientation to TDI Judging. To complete certification, this class must be followed up with Mentor, Practicum and Internship requirements that will serve as “behind the wheel” on-site training.

O-100 ~ TDI NEW OFFICIALS COURSE
Credit Hours: 2 1/2 credit hours
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  ALL New TDI Officials
Cost: $35.00
Course Description: This course discusses the basics of operations at TDI competitions and will prepare individuals to certify as a Time and Penalty Official (TPO) and Ready Line Official (RLO). This class must be followed up with O-209, mentoring, and practicum to fulfill the requirements for certification as an RLO/TPO. **Note:  Certification as an HCO is not available to NEW officials.






The Rule Book:  A guide to  Using the IHSA/NFHS Spirit Book
Credit Hours: 1-hour non-credit course
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  Required for ALL New TDI Officials a and New Coaches, recommended for  Returning Officials and Returning Coaches
Cost: None
Course Description: Knowing the rules is essential to being prepared for competition.  Knowing how to read the rules can be tricky.  This class will help both new and veteran judges and officials understand the organization and structure of the NFHS Spirit Book and its specific application to competitive dance.
OPTIONAL Q&A follows this class:  (1/2 hour non-credit) This is your opportunity to ask questions about the interpretation of specific rules of further explanation of how to read the Rules Book.

TO-100 ~ TDI TABULATION NEW OFFICIALS COURSE
Credit Hours: 2 credit hours
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for:  ALL New TDI Tabulation Officials
Cost: $28.00
Course Description: This course prepares individuals to work and manage the Tabulation room at competitions. TO-100 combined with a practicum experience for all new tab officials will teach the system through actual observation at TDI competitions and will prepare individuals to become a Certified Tab Official.

LEVEL 200 COURSES


C-210 ~ TDI Yearly Updates for New and Returning Coaches
Credit Hours:  1 hr.
Pre-Requisite:  C-100 in 2009 (new coaches only) or coaching experience within TDI in 2008 
Recommended for:  New and Returning Dance and Flag Coaches.
Cost: $14.00
Course Description: This mid-level course goes beyond basic coaching principles AND Practical Applications in terms of the MOST CURRENT information and UPDATES in TDI. The class is designed to assist coaches in attaining a more in-depth understanding of new 2010-2011 season updates, the score sheets most current insights, category review and the new state qualification system.  ** This course is a required pre-requisite for all Level 300 and 400 Classes when coaches are seeking Coach Certification. For those coaches who took C-200 last year, this is the only course needed at the 200 level.
OPTIONAL Q&A follows this class:  (1/2 hour non-credit) This is your opportunity to ask questions about the interpretation of specific rules of further explanation of how to read the Rules Book.

HCO-210 ~ TDI 2010 Update for New and Returning HCO’s

J-210 ~ 2010 Update for New and Returning Judges
Credit Hours: 2 hrs.
Pre-Requisite:  Hired by TDI in the 09-10 Competition Season
Required for:  New and Returning TDI Judges
Cost: $28.00
Course Description: In this course, PRACTICE and APPLICATION are the key...updated material based on last season’s evaluations drive the course’s focus. Together, in this co-taught class, Artistic and Technical Judges will review how to interpret the score sheets in a CONSISTENT manner. During the first part of the class, we will work together on TDI expectations in criteria, scoring, understanding the rubric and professionalism. The last half hour of class, will be a breakout of dance and flag judges to focus on dance and flag specifics. The goal is to re-commit and re-fuel ourselves for the upcoming season..




Digital Update and Taping Practice
Credit Hours: included as part of J-210 credit
Pre-Requisite:  Hired by TDI in the 09-10 Competition Season

O-210 ~ TDI 2010 Update for New and Returning Officials
Credit Hours: 1 hr.
Pre-Requisite:  O-100 (New Officials Only) Or Hired by TDI in the 09-10 Competition Season (returning Officials only)
Required for:  New and Returning TDI Judges
Cost: $14.00
Course Description: This course updates new and returning officials on the 2010rules and talks through the important focuses and changes for the competition season.   **Note:  If you are a new official, you must take O-100 first!

TOWN HALL MEETING:  "IHSA State Final - Separating Fact from Fiction"

Course Description: There is much uncertainty, confusion, and even false information circulating about what IHSA's recent season proposal and it's calling for an Ad Hoc Committee may mean to the future of competitive dance in Illinois.  Come to UNDERSTAND the current discussions taking place within IHSA and the competitive dance community regarding the recent Ad Hoc Committee's Meeting, LEARN about the state of competitive dance in Illinois and the potential need for a IHSA State Final and HEAR from the people who have been articulating with IHSA for the past several years and participated in the Ad Hoc meeting.  The goal is to communicate what was discussed, what was recommended, and what future steps you can expect IHSA to take in the coming years.  This is MUST for those in attendance of the 2010 Fall Conference!

Course Description: This PLC is a collaborative learning opportunity for officials to discuss what they are seeing from teams this season.  Topics for discussion include new, interesting or questionable tricks, lifts, stunts, etc. and how the spirit rules apply.   Topics will also include how to become more efficient, while maintaining safety for all performers, as well as best practices in professionalism and communication with coaches and teams.
