Class Schedule
The TDI Academy has prepared a comprehensive course listing for the 2008-2009 season. TDI has developed courses to meet the needs of today's Dance, Flag, and Youth program Students, Coaches, Judges, and Parents. Below is a listing of courses that are currently available. We will be adding new curriculum and date offerings often so please check back frequently.

LEVEL 100 COURSES
JJ-108 JUNIOR JUDGING
Credit Hours: 2 hour non-credit course (No Pre-Requisite)
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended For: Student performers, Choreographers, and interested parents.
Cost: $10.99 or $25.99 for 3 or more team members.
Course Description: This entry-level course is geared toward gaining an insight into the score sheets and how the judges actually adjudicate performances. We will talk specifically and candidly about how scores are earned and the rubric that guides the system. It is a basic course that will be especially helpful for student performers, new coaches, choreographers, and possibly even parents.

C-108 ~ Coaching Dance and Flag Principles
Credit Hours: 2 credit hours
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for: New Coaches
Cost: $20.99
Course Description: This course follows the basic structure of ASEP (American Sport Education Program) sport specific coaching principles. This class is currently under ASEP certification review. If approved, it will count towards Dance and Flag ASEP Coach Certification. It also serves as a PRE-REQUISITE for C-208 and is a substitute for 2 years coaching experience. If you are a new or beginner coach…this class is a MUST!

LEVEL 200 COURSES
C-200 ~ PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS FOR COACHES
Credit Hours: 2 hrs.
Pre-Requisite: None
Recommended for: New Dance and Flag Coaches.
Cost: $20.99
Course Description: This mid-level course goes beyond basic coaching principles. Coaches will be provided a broad overview of what it takes to be a knowledgeable and successful coach in TDI. The class is designed to assist coaches in attaining a more in-depth understanding of new season updates, the score sheets, categories and the state qualification system. The first hour and a half of the class are applicable to all high school and youth coaches. During the last half hour, dance and flag will breakout separately to focus on dance/flag specifics. ** This course is a required pre-requisite for all Level 300 and 400 Classes

C-208 ~ COMPREHENSIVE COACHING 2008
Credit Hours: 1 hr.
Pre-Requisite: C-108, or C-200 in 2007, or 2 Years Coaching Experience
Recommended for: Returning Dance and Flag Coaches.

Course Description: This mid-level course goes beyond basic coaching principles AND Practical Applications in terms of the MOST CURRENT information and UPDATES in TDI. Coaches will be provided a broad overview of what it takes to be a successful coach in TDI. The class is designed to assist coaches in attaining a more in-depth understanding of new 2008-2009 season updates, the score sheets most current insights, category review and the new state qualification system.
** This course is a required pre-requisite for all Level 300 and 400 Classes when coaches are seeking Coach Certification. For those coaches who took C-200 last year, this is the only course needed at the 200 level.

J-200 ~ PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS FOR DANCE & FLAG JUDGES
Credit Hours: 3 hrs.
Pre-Requisite: A-100
Required for: New TDI Judges

Course Description: In this course, PRACTICE and APPLICATION are the focus. Together, Artistic and Technical Judges will learn how to interpret the score sheets. During the first two hours, we will work together on TDI expectations on criteria, scoring, and consistency. For the last hour of class, there will be a breakout of dance and flag to focus on dance and flag specifics. The goal is to receive the “behind the book” portion of training. This class will be followed up with Practicum and Internship requirements that will serve as “behind the wheel” hours. .

J-208 ~ PRACTICAL UPDATE/RECERTIFICATION FOR RETURNING DANCE & FLAG JUDGES
Credit Hours: 2 hrs.
Pre-Requisite: Hired by TDI in the 07-08 Competition Season
Required for: Returning TDI Judges

Course Description: In this course, PRACTICE and APPLICATION are the key...updated material based on last season’s evaluations drive the course’s focus. Together, in this co-taught class, Artistic and Technical Judges will review how to interpret the score sheets in a CONSISTENT manner. During the first part of the class, we will work together on TDI expectations in criteria, scoring, understanding the rubric and professionalism. The last half hour of class, will be a breakout of dance and flag judges to focus on dance and flag specifics. The goal is to re-commit and re-fuel ourselves for the upcoming season.

O-200 ~ TDI OFFICIALS COURSE
Credit Hours: 2 hrs.

Required for: ALL New TDI Officials

Course Description: This course discusses the basics of operations at TDI competitions and will prepare individuals to become and renew as a Time and Penalty Official (TPO), Ready Line Official (RLO) or Head Contest Official (HCO).
**This class in combination with an IHSA Rule Interpretation Meeting fulfills the requirements to be an Official for TDI.

O-208 ~ PRACTICAL UPDATE/RECERTIFICATION FOR VETERAN OFFICIALS

Course Description: This course will be offered at 2 Early Contests as a practicum/update experience. The first hour is an early class that updates officials on the 2008 rules and talks through the important focuses for the competition season. The second hour is an actual on-site pre-contest meeting that prepares and educates the officials through actual observation of the HCO.

Course Description: This course prepares individuals to work and manage the Tabulation room at competitions. A practicum experience for all new tab officials will teach the system through actual observation at TDI competitions and will prepare individuals to become a Certified Tab Official.
