TDI abides by the rules and regulations of the IHSA and NFHS and follows the
IHSA Spirit Rules
Below is the TDI Coach Knowledge Assessment that covers the rules that dance and flag coaches encounter most often.
Coaches must successfully complete this assessment and score 80% (18 correct out of 23) or higher if they intend on having their team qualify for
the State Championship or JV Elite series. It is recommended that all coaches take the following assessment.
TDI Officials are required to complete and pass this assessment as part of the certification process.

For questions 1 through 4 please select True or False.
1. It is legal to wear shoes that only cover the ball of the foot. 


2. It is illegal to perform a forward roll with poms in the hands.

14. Sportsmanship violations can be assigned to a team for conduct outside of the performance areas and/or times and are not limited to student (it can include coaches and parent).
15. A performer up in a mount may hold a flag in their hand as long as it is tossed to them once they are up in the mount.
16. It is illegal for a performer to wear a watch, post earrings [covered by tape], religious medal on a chain, naval ring, fish line through tongue piercing or spacers to keep a hole from closing, small plastic spacers in piercings, hair tie on the wrist.

Team sizes are based on redeclarations received the Monday BEFORE the competition.
A team must floor at least 75% of their declared team size to avoid a penalty.
The Pre-Contest meeting is mandatory and should be attended by at least one coach.
Choreography has been created to the new TDI Audio logo and can be found online for all students to learn.
For Regional Competition Awards ceremonies, all category placements are NOT read.
Parents are not to save seats at regional competitions.
For the final regional competitions in February, teams will be limited to competing in 2 categories per team.
Plan for alternate music methods (CDs, cassettes, IPODs); some sites have IPOD capabilities, but not all.
Performance time is based on when the first movement or music begins to when the last movement or music is completed.
To ensure competitions remain family oriented, I will be aware of the lyrics to the music that my team performs to.
Membership to the Illinois Coaches Association is only provided if I join the TDI Coaches Association.
A piece of equipment (pom/flag) may be set out of bounds, but a performer must not bear weight out of bounds when picking up the item.
If my team is late to RLO causing a delay in TPO, I will not have the opportunity to use the full scheduled time for TPO and could receive a penalty for causing a delay in the schedule.
If I am competing in the Kick category, I am still required to meet the minimum number of kicks (TDY=35, Varsity/JV=50). If I have less than the minimum, I will receive a warning by the HCO and my Artistic/Technical scores will be impacted.
