Spirit Rule Clarifications
TEAMDance Illinois abides by the Illinois High School Association and the National Federation of High School Spirit Rules. These rules are established and updated annually to maintain the sound traditions of this sport, encourage sportsmanship and minimize the inherent risk of injury.
The Varsity Coach from each team (one from dance and one from flag) must attend a rule meeting and pass the information to assistants and JV coaches. For additional information on Spirit Rule Meetings please click the link.
In this creative sport, we find that as teams choreograph their routines they create "new moves" that often challenge the existing rules. As new moves and situations are identified TDI works closely with IHSA to evaluate the risk of injury to the performers and offer clarification/interpretation of the rules.
Coaches may email tdi@teamdanceillinois.org with any questions they may have regarding specific rules and situations. After receiving clarification we will post the interpretations here for all teams to review.
