Play By The Rules!
TEAMDance Illinois abides by the National Federation of High School Spirit Rules. These rules are established and updated annually to maintain the sound traditions of this sport, encourage sportsmanship and minimize the inherent risk of injury.
TDI is committed to providing you with the resources necessary to ensure you understand the NFHS Spirit Rules and that your performances meet all safety regulations. Several Opportunities are provided to ensure that you are knowledgeable about the rules and their application.
Fall Conference Class Offering – Guide to Using NFHS Spirit Book – This class is offered at Fall Conference only, and is geared toward understanding how to read the Spirit Book, understanding the safety requirements for performances and discussing commonly asked questions.
TDI Coach Knowledge Assessment - An online assessment that covers the rules that dance and flag coaches encounter most often. While we recommend for each TDI and TDY coach to complete the assessment, it is required by the head coach of record for any team who wishes to compete at the Varsity State Championship, JV Illinois Invitational, and TDY Midwest Championship. Click here to take Knowledge Assessment.
2013-2014 NFHS Spirit Rule Book – All coaches should either purchase or get a book from their school administration. Limited quantities will be available for purchase at the TDI Merchandise table, or you can click here to be linked to the NFHS Web Store.
Email us!! Coaches may email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions they may have regarding specific rules and situations. Videos are accepted (and encouraged) to help visualize stunts.
Please note; we can only clarify rule interpretations for teams competing with TEAMDance Illinois.

*Please note that the TDI Knowledge Assessment and/or the Fall Conference Course (Guide to Using NFHS Spirit Book) DOES NOT replace the IHSA Spirit Rule requirement for any school.
